IMPORTANT CHANGES TO RULES CONCERNING EVEYONE PLAYING IN THE ORBL
Following a league meeting on Thursday 12th November 2015, the committee would like to draw your attention to a couple of issues currently affecting the league.
1) The committee are concerned about the number of matches being cancelled, particularly in the first division. In the season so far, there have been 12 matches cancelled or 15% of the total. In the first division alone, there have been 8 cancellations or 33% of the total. The committee feel that this is unacceptable and would like to point out that the rules state that the only reason a match should be cancelled is due to the courts not being available. We would like to reiterate that we would expect all clubs to make every effort to play the matches as per the fixture list – unfortunately, we do not feel that this has been the case so far this season. Many clubs currently have quite a large number of registered players, so we expect clubs to be able to put a team together for the vast majority of matches, even if it meant B team players having to play in A team matches. We would not, however, expect to see A team players in a B team on a regular basis. The committee will be monitoring the situation and hope to see an improvement in the second half of the season.
2) The second issue is to do with the naming of players on the score cards. Despite a number of requests and reminders (league website, secretaries meeting, email before start of season), a number of teams are still not entering the correct names onto the score cards. The names on the score cards should be exactly the same as those on the registrations – the names should be the full names of every player, not just the first names or surnames but both.
The committee have decided that, as of today 14th November, if the names on the score cards do not exactly match those on the registrations, then these players will be deemed to be unregistered. This will mean that all of the games that they have played in the match will be void and awarded to the opponents. In the worst circumstances, this could mean that a team will lose all 18 games in a match!
To help clubs with this, I will email out the names of all of the registered players to each club individually. These are names (first names and surnames) that I will expect to see on the score cards.
We are looking for new teams and clubs to join us can you help!
There are six people to each team (but we suggest that you have eight people so you have extra players for any eventuality). We play Monday to Friday evenings and we can help you find a venue if required.
Juniors and ladies more than welcome.
All our clubs started somewhere and we can help you to almost any extent to get you started. We have as few rules as possible as our intention is to play badminton not politics.
Your standard is of little consequence as every new team has to start in the bottom division and work their way up.
Give us a try, we can arrange for you to visit a club and have a few games.

Welcome to the Oldham and Rochdale Badminton League (ORBL)
Badminton is a great social sport and the Oldham and Rochdale Badminton League has the best clubs as members within a 10 mile radius of these towns. The clubs represent all the diverse mix that this area has to offer and has members ranging in age from 15 to 70+ and in size of club from one team to three teams, being open it is mainly men but not always.
We have had to suspend the Mixed League this coming season as there is a shortage of women players at the moment, therefore any ladies will be more than welcome!
Any clubs who wish to put out a team, no matter what your standard, there is place for you.
So, whatever your standard, give us a try. After perusing the list in ‘Club Contacts’ get in touch with any of them that “take your fancy” and go and try them out but if you require any additional help please contact (using ORBL as your E-mail heading) either Rob at Robert@prsmanchester.co.uk or Philip at email@example.com
